RC Helicopter Safety
• A thorough preflight inspection should be performed. Following the preflight
checklist ensures that critical items are not overlooked or missed. If there is
any doubt about its airworthiness then it is best not to fly the helicopter.
• Do not fly solo -- Otherwise, in the case of an emergency, you may not have
access to your cell phone to get help.
• When you start a nitro helicopter, be sure to grasp the rotor head. If the
helicopter is accidentally started at an elevated power setting, injury could
occur from the quickly rotating blades if they are not being securely held.
• As a helicopter that is armed can develop full power almost immediately;
electric helicopters must be treated with respect.
• When moving a helicopter that is running or armed, always engage the
throttlehold. What the throttle hold does is prevent the increases in power if
you accidentally bump the throttle.
• Don't get too near a helicopter that is running, and never hold an electric
helicopter in your hands while the blades are rotating.
• Stay a safe distance away from a helicopter that is running at high speed
while strapped to a stand.
• To ensure enough time to move out of harm's way, always hover at least 15 feet
away from people, including yourself.
• Keep a cell phone and first-aid kit on hand in case of emergency.
